Mental health : a public health issue in France
The World Health Organization (WHO) believes that mental health disorders are the third most prevalent condition, and that they are responsible for one quarter of disabilities.
Since the introduction of government measures linked to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for lockdown in France, the fear of disease and disrupted living conditions have had consequences on the public’s mental well-being.
- 64% of French people say that they have previously experienced a mental health problem or struggled with their mental health.
- 30% of French people say that they know one person in their close circle affected by a mental health problem.
- 1 in 5 people is affected by a mental health problem each year, which is 13 million french people.
- 3 million people in France suffer from severe mental health problems.
